2010-09-26 22:37:00 | Hi guys I want to buy an external 1TB drive with a USB connection to use as external back ups. I have always bought Seagate drives with no problems, but today I had one fail. What do you think about the Western Digital ones ? Some people swear by them others hate them !

2010-09-26 22:41:00 | I use WD. Never had a problem with it. I went from seagate to WD. Was a good price, and easy to use. Seagate I found was quite hard to get support for, especially from harvey norman. | dpDesignz (15919) | |

Nothing wrong with Seagate or WD (a few exceptions of course Id recommend get a brand name rather than generic: the generic enclosures are less reliable. Seagate Warranty support is not an issue through official NZ channels WD MYBook recently purchased had a 'Vitual CD' somehow built into it. Contained backup software etc. VERY annoying as it cant be turned off/removed & comes up as another drive separate from the USB drive. |

2010-09-26 23:08:00 | I prefer Seagate and WDs, but lately I have been buying WDs only. Never had any issues with Seagate or WDs. I would not recommend Hitachi drives. | ronyville (10611) | |
2010-09-26 23:13:00 | Theres your problem. I know. I never use Harvey Norman anymore. First my USB plug on the hard drive broke/bent and they said they couldn't fix it. I had a friend repair it for $10 just welding my cable to the contacts. Then about a 6 or 7 months later my plug just stopped working, and they wouldn't order me a new one because I had modified the HDD, then when I said I had asked them to repair it, the guy called me a liar and he said he would never have told me that (same guy as the first time). I've never bought from them again (last 2 years). :D

2010-09-27 03:30:00 | I prefer Seagate and WDs, but lately I have been buying WDs only. Ditto. mainly because I used to get my Seagates from Morningstar, who are no more. WD or Seagate, best quality. Remember, stick to quality but any drive can fail - they still have mechanical parts for one thing. You just want the ones with the lower failure rates.
