1139546 2010-09-25 08:10:00 My computer started to have cold boots after the earthquake and also shuts down randomly sometimes 20minutes after booting or even 2 hours. Also my o/s Windows 7 Ultimate freezes after the "welcome" menu and i cant use the keyboard and mouse. Before the welcome part the mouse and keyboard is all good and iv'e tested it. Lastly the network socket on my motherboard stopped working.(i know this because im running linux on my main PC atm and everything works fine except for the cold boots and the random shutting down)

Could I get insurance for this? Or should I change the motherboard?

Thank you:horrified

1139548 2010-09-25 09:43:00 Should be covered by a Household Contents Insurance Policy. See your insurance company.

1139550 2010-09-25 11:10:00 Interesting advice speedy. Don't think 7.1 quakes are covered under warranty probably not the CGA either.

Insurance would be the correct way to go if the issue was caused by the earth quake.

1139552 2010-09-25 12:00:00 I wonder why it's actually giving you these problems.....blotched HDD perhaps from all the shaking? Or the PSU got jolted by electrical anomaly brought on by the quake and almost fried some components?

Have you actually seen what it's like inside now, though I doubt loose cables would cause your kinds of problem.....did anything drop onto your PC, and how badly shaken was it during the quake?

You need to establish what the problem is first.
Check each component - or have a tech do it.
You can claim it - but if it is just the MB then it's probably not worth it - your excess would be around the same cost.
