1139388 2010-09-24 20:00:00 I have an old 2003 HP Pavilion Pentium 4 Processor with an old nVidia 5200 video card and a couple years back i got a Radeon x1950 Sapphire graphics card and have never been able to use it because of my power supply only being 250w.

I just wanna know what kind of power supply I would need to get to be able to use my graphics card? I know it needs to be 500w and have an extra 4-pin but is there any like connection specs i have to look at?

1139389 2010-09-24 20:09:00 power supply connectors are pretty standard these days aren't they? if you get a good one it will come with all the connectors u need i would assume, it is one of the last thing i will worry about. :D

oh, and welcome to pressF1 :D

1139390 2010-09-24 20:09:00 More recent PSU's will have the 4 pin (for the ATX 12 v connection). Does the videocard need a 6 pin connection?? If it does, the PSU will have to have the connection as well.

You have to be careful, with branded computers. Their PSU's maybe smaller than the normal PSU's. And if you get a normal sized PSU, it maybe a tight fit.

I had one like that - customers PSU died. SO I changed both the PSU and her case.

Had to wait 6 weeks before I could get a replacement once due to size

Open and get the serial No and see if it's a odd ball and see if it can be upgraded

might pay to upgrade the box to something later that has better spec's

1139394 2010-09-26 22:56:00 There are still PC's being made that use non standard power/mb connectors , on branded PC's. Pretty rare, but no good reason for it. 1101 (13337)
