Modern cars are too powerful for just about everybody, But its generally the immature and inexperienced that plant boot in stupid situations and can't recover it. I'd raise the age to 20. And I'd outlaw credit to anyone under 25 for the purpose of buying a car. When you have to save and buy with cash you will buy something far more practical, Leave the flash cars to those that can afford them, and who in turn respect what they have worked for. |

If it wasnt for all the idiots out there, who cant drive (or drive like madmen), it probably wouldnt have changed. Lucky the age didnt get raised to 20 or 21. Then they'll really have something to moan about | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 863415 | 2010-03-03 04:41:00 | NZ has one of the lowest driving age in the world. I am happy the govt is raising the age, but they should have made it at least 17 or 18, in line with lots of other countries. Our teenagers/kids have proved over the last 30 years that they are not mature enough to handle being in charge of a vehicle doing anything over 50kmph. LL |

| 863417 | 2010-03-03 04:56:00 | I don't think it really matters, a lot of guys, myself included, will be a good boy while they're learning. But once they feel more comfortable in a car start driving more like a hero. And before you know if they push the limits. I know I'm a good driver, I know how to handle a car in out of control moments etc, but can also criticise alot about it. Like I drive around 65-70k's on most roads. Feels normal to me. But its my bad, but thats not just a young guy thing. No matter the age there will always be a point that some drivers play race track, putting the driving age up just delays that |

| 863418 | 2010-03-03 04:59:00 | I am against it now I have to wait another year for my boy to get his licence. He is 15 in December. I had visions next year of going to the pub getting blotto and him picking me up. Looks like its another year of trying to keep under the limit and driving. Wont vote for National next election if it they do it. |

I'd bet good money that someone who actually has expertise in the field of good driving would disagree with your opion of your skills. Personally I suck at driving. Pulled far to many stupid stunts, had far too many accidents, Drive in a manner that suits me and not what I'm required to be doing. And I've had so little training that I shouldn't be on the road. And sadly this applies to just about everybody. Apart from those that are worse, Like those arrogant enough to think they are "good drivers" cause they can hang the arse out. And anyone who thinks they are "fast drivers" without aspecific training and experience in that area are strumming their fat ones. |
