862919 2010-03-01 22:45:00 When I heard that Prime and Sky were to handle the winter Olympics I could visualize the result and groaned - not having Sky I would get snippets occasionally which would be full of adverts and probably tell me to go to Sky for the full story. All events would be recorded.

I could not have been more wrong.

PRIME you did a magnificent job.
The best I have ever seen since watching it live in the UK in the 1950s on our grotty little black and white TVs with of course no adverts.
But Primes all day transmission - much of it live - was superb. Some credit also to the BBC who were obviously doing much of the work. Plus very few adverts indeed.
With so much to watch even though I am retired I had to use my DVD recorder to watch later at my leisure.

So nice to see ice skating really given its due also.
And on that note I thought Robin Cousins was the best commentator I have listened to.
The standard all round was superb - and I was glad to see the new marking system (not perfect but better).
The figure skaters have rediscovered how to get down to it when doing Sit Spins. But I observed few "Illusions" and no Piston Rolls which seem to have died!
I was wary of the new rules for ice dance - at one time they could not ever part and had to remain in contact. But the results were interesting.
And the lifts in pairs "WOW".
Made the single lift in Dirty Dancing look pathetic. The most amazing to my mind was the pair, where the man had both arms fully extended over his head and then slowly turned on one skate only. Not possible! But it was done.

Reminded me that 25 years or so ago I wrote to TVNZ asking for ice skating events to be shown and was informed by one of their staff that there was no audience for ice skating on TV.
That was the year Torvill & Dean ice dancers had a bigger audience in Europe than the European Soccer Final attracted. No audience indeed.
Well thank you Prime - you did fantastically well - I have lots of recorded stuff to watch at my leisure.

862920 2010-03-01 22:53:00 As I've got sky & didn't watch the Prime coverage I still agree that was the best coverage of sport I've ever seen in NZ. The paralympics starts on the 13th & am looking forward to that too.
Thank God TV1 didn't get it. It would have been diabolical, like all their sports coverage. Unless you happen to like rugby or netball stuffed down your throat

862922 2010-03-01 22:59:00 Tv on normal tv for once instead of paying another rip off act like sky is always good.
And I agree, the best coverage of the oylmpics Ive seen. Although I enjoyed the ski x and the like. Felt sorry for the guys when the gate sound gave out and one even got a charlie horse knocking into the gate which cost him a medal.

862926 2010-03-02 00:07:00 Fully agree with Metla.
The Crowd goes wild show was complete bollocks.
Enjoyed the rest of the coverage though.

I must admit the Crowd goes Wild has had me puzzled. I have tried it once or twice but it just seemed like two boring characters chatting together and I never gave it more than a few minutes before switching off.

What is supposed to be the point of the show?

862928 2010-03-02 02:45:00 I love CGW, especially when Hayley is presenting it. :p

It's just a light hearted look at the sports news, I thought they did a pretty good job actually.
