1140823 2010-09-30 22:47:00 All my USB ports are not working. I tried rebooting it and it didn't work. I switched it off and waited for few minutes and try again. Still not working.

I got old keyboard and mouse, the one with non-USB connections and try again. I got no response or light on the keyboard.

The Hard Drive is still working and I can see Windows XP on my screen.

How can I communicate with the PC if all the keyboard whether USB or not is not talking to the PC?

My PC is 5 years old, and it is Win XP SP3.

My feeling is that the windows update may have something to do with it?

1140824 2010-09-30 22:55:00 Check USB is enabled in BIOS? If PS2 connections aren't working either then it might be something more serious. SoniKalien (792)
1140825 2010-09-30 22:56:00 And what if you boot into safe mode? Same problem or not? pctek (84)
1140826 2010-09-30 23:06:00 How can I boot in safe mode if the keyboard is not talking to PC. Would putting Windows XP CD in will work???? stingray68 (7305)
1140827 2010-10-01 01:05:00 If neither USB nor PS2 devices are working, your motherboard is probably fubar. inphinity (7274)

1140829 2010-10-01 09:08:00 How can I boot in safe mode if the keyboard is not talking to PC. Would putting Windows XP CD in will work????What this will do is bypass the Normal operation of the Windows OS.

When you start the PC, start tapping F8, IF the keyboard is working you will get the options to start in safe mode. If this does happen then its corrupted drivers somewhere. Safe mode only loads teh basic drivers for windows to work.

IF you can't get into safe mode, shutdown the PC, restart it, start tapping the Delete key, this "should" enter the BIOS, some motherboards may also use F1 or F2 to enter the BIOS, the key to tap will flash across the screen usually near the bottom when the PC first starts.

IF you can get into the BIOS, then its a software problem, BUT as inphinity said if that wont work, theres another problem. ( polite version to what feersumendjinn linked) :D

Question: has the PC been moved knocked etc and this has started happening ?

Sometimes if the motherboard moves on its mounts it may be shorting the rear connectors.

To test this you need to strip out the components, reassemble back on a bench out of the case and see if the same fault occurs.

1140830 2010-10-04 07:55:00 It is working fine now. Took it to the repairer and said it was the on/off switch was stuck in on position. Now using restart button to start the PC.
Thanks to those who reply me
