865585 2010-03-10 05:18:00 Please be gentle with me!!!!

I've already decided on prepay but what are the options?

Is there any NZ website that lists current models?

I want as few bells & whistles as possible.

Best place to buy - I live in Wellington.

Tia.

865586 2010-03-10 05:23:00 Get a cheap one from The Warehouse / DSE. Altho who do you want to go with? Telecom, Vodafone or 2Degrees? Speedy Gonzales (78)

865588 2010-03-10 05:53:00 You can get a basic one for under $100. Check out the providers web sites, but don't buy from them as you can get them cheaper at DSE Noel Lemmings etc.

865589 2010-03-10 05:58:00 I assume by providers you mean Telecom, Vodaphone etc.
I'm such a cellphone virgin I have to ask....does every provider give access to all the other providers?

865590 2010-03-10 05:59:00 I think I have a spare Nokia 1100 lying around somewhere.

About as basic as you can get.

Edit:
Works on 2 Degrees Or Vodafone only.

Generally not, however 2° roams on Vodafone when there's no coverage. XT uses 850MHz GSM which most Vodafone phones don't support, and Telecom's CDMA network is a completely different technology.

865592 2010-03-10 06:12:00 You buy into a Telecom PrePaid plan and you are stuck with Telecom.

You buy into a Vodafone PrePay and you can swap the sim card for a 2degree sim card, different number same phone.

Also, if the phone is VodaFone Prepay plan and provding it is not locked to NZ Vodafone, you can take it with you to Australia and swap the NZ sim card for a Oz Vodafone Sim card though a NZ Vodafone Sim card will work in Australia. Same applies if you go to say Singapore, just buy a local sim card and insert.

Depending on where you are, you might be able to pick up a cheap second hand Nokia or something rather than buying a new one. Not many basic models available now new, most new stuff is all bells and whistles.

XT uses SIM cards. :)

865594 2010-03-10 06:15:00 Let me get this straight.
If I'm on Vodafone I can't get through to someone who is on Telecom?
