As far as I can tell, the only thing wrong with a poll tax for some is they'd actually have to contribute to paying the rates. Can't say I followed the issue in Britain so I'd be interested to hear what you thought the problem with it was. |

I agree the idea was a lot fairer but the chance was that the revenue would have increased more than would have compensated the rating system. |

Poll tax was introduced and is still in place today, everybody pays something towards it even those who don't own a house as it is rates on the person not the property. It is a much fairer system to all but the initial start up was marred by riots and street protests. Despite what people think here the British are quite an aggressive nation still. (I know the other English on here might disagree with that last statement but I find it generally to be true). The riots were due to the fact that initially the rate was set far too high and not so much due to the tax itself. People of all races hate change |
