865657 2010-03-11 10:16:00 Ignorance has never stopped us in the past - we repeatedly brought in Lucas equipped monstrosities knowing full well what it meant. Epic fails throughout the land.
Don't expect common sense to appear so soon, some people are still buying Rovers.

865658 2010-03-11 10:49:00 Bloody pathetic poll.
You blokes clearly have not listened to the arguments by SIR Geoffrey Palmer, an ex-Labour PM, no less. He heads our IWC delegation.
He says that at present the Japs are exploiting a loophole in the 20-year old IWC agreement and killing as many whales as they like for "research".
But if we allow commercial whaling, we can put a quota on the number of whales that will be killed each year. That will be better than the present situation. And once a quota is set, it can be reduced by agreement.
Whereas at present there is no limit.

So this poll is just shallow and anyone who signs it is ignorant.

But that's the thing, it's NOT research. We all know it's not research. They know, we know, and so does everyone else. What they are doing is quite clearly commercial, nothing to do with research whatsoever.

And in the whale sanctuary, commercial whaling is banned. But the government is too useless to try and stop them.

Good thing there's the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to do it for them!

If commercial whaling was made legal, you can bet the quota would be whatever Japan wanted it to be...

Rover is dead, some last minute rescue package involving a communist chinese car company fell through.
I wonder what Lucas parts the commies make.

Yes, but everything we've done so far has been ineffective because the Japs can hide behind their so-called research . We all know it's not research, but the reality is they can get away with it . And they don't care what a tinpot little country at the bottom of the world says or does, they'll continue to do their "research" .

We need to figure out a better strategy . At least if we had quotas, the number of endangered whales that are killed could be reduced .

As for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, they're just a bunch of eco-terrorists who are doing more harm than good for the cause .

865662 2010-03-12 18:28:00 AS a non- resident Kiwi, I can't sign.
It looks like Key has accepted 30 pieces of silver from the Japs.
Like all politicians no morals, no standards and on sale to the highest bidder, and to hell with what the electorate thinks.

Bring Brash back and out with the toady.

If commercial whaling was legal again with small quotas would it make any difference?

As you just said, they hide behind the "research" label, so they would say the quota doesn't apply, as their whaling is not commercial .

The only thing that works is going down there and telling them to get stuffed, like Sea Shepherd does .

They might seem a bit radical to some people but they don't do much harm to the whalers at all, except stop them from catching any whales, which I think is a good thing . . . .

865665 2010-03-12 19:48:00 Federated farmers could supply the Air Force who would bomb the whalers with lambs and calves while the Navy lobbed kittens until the whalers agree to go away and harpoon geishas instead. R2x1 (4628)
