1141061 2010-10-02 22:35:00 Nomad, you're right, any device if that size won't be geared towards phone calls or photo taking, regardless if the manufacturer. Same as desktops aren't functionally portable, it's just a size thing really :)

Gary67, I think I'm in the same boat as you. Although I likely won't end up buying one, if I can get one through work then I won't object! However, personal preference leads me towards another OS.

plod, I agree, the 7"size may be just a little too small. I grabbed myself an Eken M001 as a bit of a test. The cpu is far too slow, not enough memory, and the gravity sensor instead of an accelerometer is a joke. The screen is a good size, functionally practical for use in both creating and consuming content, but in terms if mobility, the iPad feels a better size. the eken fits into my back jeans pocket but it's not ideal, and it's too small to carty under your arm as you would with say an iPad or a small folder if you're a business man. That's possibly my only reservation with a screen that size. Still, I like the windscreen style personally!

Perhaps I could do another blog on it, but I need to redo my blog, it's been hacked like 3x in the last two weeks :(

1141063 2010-10-03 03:47:00 Point taken, it has its uses. I will devoted to the galaxy when I can get my greedy mitts on one though. iPad when it came down to it had issues with portability. that was my big over rule. its a bit of an awkward size The Error Guy (14052)

You will find it fine when when you grow a bit older, bigger and wiser.
15 is an awkward age.

1141065 2010-10-03 09:19:00 Haha well said ;)

The iPad actually "feels" better to carry around under your arm compared with a 7" device such as the Galaxy Tab. Have you actually tried carrying around either device? I have...

In terms of creation / consumption of content, from web browsing to emails, I found there was very little difference between the two. Though, I must say, the iPad was slightly better for crowding 3 people around than the 7" Eken M001... Which is the same size & resolution as the Galaxy Tab.

Had a wee wizz thru with the Galaxy, doesn't seem bad .
I find it more for personal user than for sharing with others or let others borrow it thou . Just at A4 seems more user friendly .
1024 * 600 still pretty ok .
Still you can debate all you want, it's not a Apple, me thinks it won't have the millions of customers :p
Like the Android devices, it may be better from a technical view, I don't doubt that they can make a dent on Apple's share but they won't overtake Apple (for the time being) .

When I was young, I got the phones from overseas that NZ didn't have . Sony made some sleek phones in its days . Some even had a fold out full key keypad, micro memory stick . :D

1141067 2010-10-03 19:24:00 Where'd you get your hands on one of them? I'd be keen as mustard to have a play...

Yeah, you're right, single-handedly no manufacturer is likely to topple the Apple lead, however combined, all the tablet devices running Android are quite likely (As they have wit the Cellphone world) to pull the reigns in on that early lead pretty damn quickly.

1024x600 is only marginally higher resolution than what's commonplace on 3.7" Cellphones, but I was thinking about it earlier, there's really little need for anything much more during general browsing etc to be honest.

I do agree though, the A4-size of the iPad does "feel" a little better to hold. Dunno why, just does ...

1141068 2010-10-03 19:25:00 Chill, I meant a quick wizz thru Google :p
Sorry, :D

Yes, I prefer a bit wider than 1024, I could scroll more down as required thou.
Some webpages are a wee higher than just XGA.

1141069 2010-10-03 19:45:00 This site looks a whole lot better on the iPad in the normal format rather than the mobile one.
Still the only site I have ever come across that directs the iPad to Mobile when using Safari. A pain when I'm trying to find info for setting up routers etc.
Is there anyone there anyone there who can fix it permanently please ?

1141070 2010-10-03 21:06:00 I changed it last time you requested, but there must be somebody at FFBM changing it back. That's odd considering they specifically told me that they wanted it to show the normal version Sue, just as you do.
I'll change it now, give me 2 minutes ...

Nomad,
Android re-formats websites incredibly well, even on the Nexus One with a 480x800 ni portrait mode.

So no word on any Galaxy Tabs in the country then? :(
