865066 2010-03-08 23:32:00 The Gull station in Otara is still advertising petrol at 162.9c (or 163.9c) per litre while all the others around are at 177.9c. I went in once, but after fighting with the pump for a while, a voice came over a loudspeaker saying something unintelligible. I thought I caught the word pre-pay, but as this was 10am I assumed I'd misheard. Any way, I gave up and went elsewhere.

Does anyone else know this station? Is it prepay 24 hours a day? If so, how does prepay actually work when buying petrol, especially when supermarket discount vouchers are involved and you don't know how much petrol you can fit in the tank????

865067 2010-03-08 23:39:00 A)It will now go up
B)Even for me being in the general vicinity, it's way too far to drive there, savings in price would be cancelled out by the distance I had to go.
Ain't that the way of it?

It's a plot.

You swipe your card and the pump checks that you are good for up to $150.
When you finish, it finalizes the transaction at the actual value.

This has caught me out several times when I've paid my credit card bill, then several days later find that I have a positive balance on the card once the hold is released.

So it ties up $150 on your account for several days? And what happens when you have supermarket discount vouchers (as most people do these days)? And then there's Fly Buys .... :waughh:

865072 2010-03-09 22:47:00 Fly Buys?

I can get a pretty good supply of flies free, delivered by air. Just switch of the bug zapper if I need live ones, otherwise there's quite a few fried flies ready toasted every day.

Maybe in winter? Are the bought flies free-range, organically raised and GE free?

Actually, I made a mistake here - it only does the $150 check if you opt for the "FILL", if you go for $50 , it only reserves $50 and then gives you a refund if you can only squeeze in less.

865074 2010-03-10 08:07:00 Stand by your incredulometers!

It is Official!

A radio ad for TVNZ announced breathlessly that it will be on the TV One news tonight. Isn't it lucky they had the team of trained professionals on hand to deal with this?

With library footage, of course.

It just wouldn't have that ring of confidence without the library footage - and the windswept but still earnest "personality".
