I'm not sure Margaret Thatcher deserves all the bad rap she got. As the iron maiden / modern day Boadicea, she was a tough old bird. She dismantled unions and brought about tough reforms. Almost single handedly she shaped post war Britain, and the legacy from the Thatcher years will endure for much longer after she's gone. There was no one single politician was either able to stand up to her, or for that matter achieve what she did. Helen? Nowhere in the same league, but a great administrator. My last comment applies on a much smaller scale, to Helen: There was no one single politician was either able to stand up to her, or achieve for that matter what she did. So there. |

Right Wing policies have sucked all the value out of the system and put it into the hands of a few and at the same time destroyed the manufacturing sector. There are other things like the price of oil and the rise of China but basically the problem is misunderstanding and mismanagement of a complex system by idiots who think that the language they speak is the reality of the situation and not a representation. Yes, the Falklands was fabricated, but it gave Britain a much needed shot in the arm, from a Leader who knew exactly what was needed to get the Brits to pull their respective fingers out. She smashed up the commy unions and got a bit of work ethic back in the place. She will always be a heroine to me, along with other great people like Churchill and Ataturk, two of my biggest heroes. |
