| 1140623 | 2010-09-30 07:17:00 | Norton utilities finds the following error in my registry - the default value for the follwing registry key has not been set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\explorer\FileExts\MAPI/IPM.Notes Should this registry key have a default value? Noron Utilities also reports that because of this missing default value my PC has poor system health. |

| 1140626 | 2010-09-30 08:05:00 | The install Microsoft Security Essentials www.microsoft.com .... or NOD32 if you want to pay for anti-virus software. Make sure you download and use Norton Removal Tool as well. Don't try running Nortons AND MSE together ... might cause conflict problems |

Download CCleaner from www.piriform.com > Analyse and Run Cleaner to get rid of temp files etc. Registry > Scan for Issues > Fix all Issues …. Save a backup copy when prompted. Download Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ … > Update> Full Scan Download Spybot from www.safer-networking.org …> Update > Full Scan > Fix any issues Download MSE from previous post > update > full Scan. It would be interesting to find out how many infections you find …. Not many on the forum trust or recommend Nortons. If you still think you have nasties on your computer after that, download Hijack This from download.cnet.com run a scan and post a log file on the forum > ask someone like Speedy (nicely though) if he can take a look at it for you …. He’s farking brilliant at finding nasties in HJT Logs !!! Welcome to the forum !! |

| 1140628 | 2010-09-30 21:42:00 | There seems to be some confusion among posters as to the difference between Norton Utilities and Norton AV. Getting back to the actual question, the lack of a default value for the registry key quoted suggests that there may be a problem sending email via Outlook from within a Windows application. As I don't use Outlook I can't go any further in suggesting a repair, other than re-install Outlook....if that is the problem, but I can't see that "system health" is seriously compromised. |

| 1140630 | 2010-09-30 22:12:00 | What OS & Office are you using ? I've got W7 & office 2010, and that Key is not even in the reg ? it gets as far as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\explorer\FileExts --- then thats it. |

| 1140632 | 2010-10-01 00:05:00 | There is no confusion here DO NOT use Norton Utilities, especially to 'repair' registry entries or 'fix' Win The Norton defrag is probhably OK (is it still included). I loved when Norton Utils used to actually recommend disabling Norton utils a few years back :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: -the older Dos versions were Excellent. Oh Symantec, where did it all go so wrong. |
