865544 2010-03-10 02:52:00 Anyone know where in NZ if at all you can get a powered dolly wheel for moving a trailer ?

Common enough in the USA and Canada but not having much luck in finding anyone who does them here.

Have contacted several trailer firms who have no idea what I am talking about.

The powered dolly wheel that I am seeking could be either electric or petrol though petrol is my preference, some mount to the trailer frame while others mount into the trailer towball socket.

Usually just a couple of wheels mounted side by side with a motor driving them and a handle with the throttle, brake etc and for steering.

Ideal for moving trailers in confined spaces or in tight driveways where you cannot get any swing from the controlling reversing vehicle.

Have a long term back injury so pushing the trailer up the drive and around the tight 90 degree corner at the end is not a option.

If all else fails I could look at getting one next time I am in Canada though that is not anytime soon, price in the UDA/Canada from about $800 to 1800USD.

Got it from Auckland or New Plymouth.

865546 2010-03-10 04:17:00 Pending any one else with info on this, when he gets back from holiday if it isn't too much hassle, I would be very interested in what he has and where he sourced it from. Thanks. PinoyKiw (9675)
865547 2010-03-10 04:27:00 Are you in a position to make or have one made for you?
They look easy to make I could get some pic's if you want.

This one is different to the neighbours

865548 2010-03-10 04:32:00 That is exactly the concept I am after.

I wouldn't be able to make one and I don't know anyone who could make one for me. Would rather buy one off the shelf rather than make one though for someone who is good at DIY, it probably wouldn't be that hard to throw together.

865549 2010-03-10 05:30:00 Caravan shops? That's what they are mostly used for in Europe gary67 (56)
865550 2010-03-10 06:15:00 Thanks Gary, will cast my net further and try some of the caravan outlets, never gave them a thought. PinoyKiw (9675)
865551 2010-04-02 22:45:00 Got this sorted out.

Someone put me in touch with a motorbike shop who had a long term very good customer with a farm Quad Bike, motor was ok but otherwise in poor condition, with a ready buyer, they took it as a trade.

Have had a towball mounted at the front in addition to the existing rear one, moves trailer with ease.
