2010-03-09 22:40:00 | Going by the conversion in paragraph 6 of this article (www.nzherald.co.nz) in today's NZHerald, it is probably not a good time for Kiwis to visit the convict settlement over to the left. | R2x1 (4628) | |
2010-03-09 22:54:00 | Whooosh. What's that? The sound of Aussies changing their money into Kiwi dollars. Why? Instant millionaires

2010-03-09 23:21:00 | :) A$150,000 = NZ$187.5 million = hyper inflation | Terry Porritt (14) | |
2010-03-09 23:40:00 | That sounds a lot because of the amount, if you do some maths, the exchange rate is approx Aust $1 = NZ 79 Cents, in other words what its been for ages (or there about). Those figures from the article Under his proposal primary carers would be paid at their full rate of take-home pay up to a maximum income of A$150,000 a year Note the KEY word maximum -- not a lot of people will be on that rate of pay.

2010-03-09 23:48:00 | "Under his proposal primary carers would be paid at their full rate of take-home pay up to a maximum income of A$150,000 a year ($187.5 million)" It's the Heralds' maths that we are referring to.

2010-03-10 00:22:00 | Which is the standard exchange rate today between Aust -NZ If it were USA $150,000 - NZ it would be $202867.19 So whats the big deal. Its nothing new or any huge change. Not like the NZ $ has dropped by 50% or anything.

2010-03-10 00:23:00 | Yeah, ordinary paupers probably only get about $NZ80,000,000.00 a year. They will be glad to get back to work driving buses so they can get a decent wage again. :D | R2x1 (4628) | |
2010-03-10 00:31:00 | Going by the conversion in paragraph 6 But nothing has changed, same ( in round figures) as its been for a long time. When we went to Aust in November it was the same figure, in fact from memory it may have been 75 Cents instead of the current 79.

2010-03-10 00:38:00 | Those figures from the article Note the KEY word maximum -- not a lot of people will be on that rate of pay. Unskilled labour at the Gorgan Gas Site has a starting rate of about 160,000 though that is 29 days on 7 days off, many people that work in the mines and supporting fields are on 150 to 200,000 a year. But in saying that, many people earn far less than that though you could still be better off than working the same job in NZ. The first 6000 can be tax free, if you work in remote area's there is reduced tax, if you add from your own salary into super that can reduce your tax bill, etc. Plus if you are a teacher or police or doctor or similiar, you may even get rent free housing and free water power, etc to encourage you to work in out of the way locations. Sent some money from Australia last week and the rate was 1.29 and 1.27 just a couple of days earlier compared to the average of about 1.22AUD to NZD.
