1141400 2010-10-04 00:30:00 Today I set out to make a computer for $1800 exactly.
Here it is.

1141404 2010-10-04 01:08:00 Because the PCWorld forums (i.e. PressF1) have always required you to log in to view attachments - and since they use different domains (pressf1.co.nz, forums.pcworld.co.nz etc) you're not necessarily signed in as far as the attachment viewing is concerned. inphinity (7274)

Damn good card. But I would have gone with Intel.

1141406 2010-10-04 02:14:00 mmmm potentially spending just a smidgeon more to get a faster CPU may balance things out a bit better, but overall I'd say it's pretty good! :D

Most people make the foolish mistake of spending $3-400 on an Intel quad-core 3Ghz+ and then spending around about the same on their GPU. Good to see somebody with their head screwed on relatively well for a change ;)
Even just a few extra bucks to get the X2 255 instead might balance things up just a little better, or if you've got $35 more up your sleeve you could grab an X4 630?

I'm not too up with the play in the AMD CPU realm though sorry ...

1141407 2010-10-04 03:30:00 Wish I could have done the same at your age, being a boarder though the school insisted that it was a laptop, no desktops in house. so I had to spend $1500, would have been much better spent on a desktop.

Nice specs though. you'll have some fun with that
