1141364 2010-10-03 19:53:00 Hi,

I have just realized that while I have installed and used ( I think ) ESET antivirus which as far as I can see has only picked up a few threats, in the three years I have had it.

Now I wonder if the built in antivirus from xtra etc is interfering with ESET-- as I frequently get a note from xtra that it has intercepted such and such as "it may carry a virus" etc---in other words cancelling each other out.

For what that is worth those that it (xtra) has stopped were quite legitimite e mails, and should not have been stopped

ESET in it's own right never does this-spurious threat warnings

Can anybody advise?

1141365 2010-10-03 19:55:00 Xtra's AV is probably an option, when you signed up. Go to their site and login to their webmail. Then disable it. Or ring them Speedy Gonzales (78)
1141366 2010-10-03 20:32:00 The two wont be clashing, as Xtra looks at the mail before it gets sent onto you. If they think its a virus, they will block it.

They have changed their spam filters a while back, and LOTS of people are getting their mails marked as spam by the xtra filters, which are then put in the spam folder of your web mail.

I've had several of my customers complain that mail that they know was sent has not arrived -- you guessed it, xtras spam filter blocked it.

1141368 2010-10-03 21:44:00 I would certainly keep Eset / NOD32, as it will pick up browser-based threats, thumbdrives, cds, network threats etc.

As Speedy said, call Telecom and have them disable their email scanning if you feel it's getting in the way :)

Yes I know- a typo, but seeing I am old enough to be your greatgrandfather-- your generation merely needs to suck it up and make allowances :waughh:

Thank you Chilling Wainui Speedy et al - no harm appears to be the answer if I leave it alone

I have only had one false positive from gmail but from what I have seen the yahoo xtra spam filter is more trouble than it is worth. Like you I have had several people wondering where their emails have got to.

1141372 2010-10-04 01:46:00 NODs great. Keep it.
Ignore what Xtra says, you can alter a certain amount via webmail settings.....spam filters (and AV filters) aren't perfect
