1141158 2010-10-02 07:29:00 I reckon my battery may have just upped it and died.

When I first bought my laptop I never really used the battery when it was plugged in, I always took it out. I never got discharged below 14% usually. then it was charged to 100 and taken out. usually the battery would last about an hour.

No I've been a bit lazier and just left it in all the time. laptop's not plugged in for long, over night at the most before I move it (can't leave anything lying around a boarding house unless you plan on throwing it out) All of a sudden the battery pretty much holds no charge, windows reports say 89% and then just looses power, no warning, just dies and doesn't have enough juice to boot back up. when the battery is in and charging (see pic) windows either says no battery detected or gives the message shown in the pic.

According to ubuntu the battery was (4mths ago) holding a 47% charge, that would last 47mins, now the expected time is about 23mins but it only lasts a few mins. sometimes not even that.

Can this be fixed (eg incorrect charge reading causing improper charging) or has the battery just upped it and died? I know it will happen to any battery, no matter how well careful but its only just over a year old, and so sudden?

1141159 2010-10-02 07:35:00 Could be a fault with the laptop. Or it may need a BIOS update to fix it?? I was going to say a windows update may also fix it, but you're using Linux Speedy Gonzales (78)
1141160 2010-10-02 07:41:00 not linux, thats just what linux and ubuntu were reporting. my main OS is Win7 Ultimate (32bit) BIOS is patched its latest rev atm (F.3.7) Maybe a fault with the laptop, any way to tell if it is? The Error Guy (14052)
1141161 2010-10-02 07:44:00 Whats the brand/model of the laptop?? It could be a known issue (it does happen with some laptops) Speedy Gonzales (78)
