866132 2010-03-11 20:34:00 Moving this desktop PC to another room where there's no RJ-45 socket, therefore, have to go wireless.

Did some research and came out with this D-Link DWA-125 (www.dlink.co.nz) wireless adapter. Have used TP-link on a few other computers and just don't like it - very poor reception.

Is this a good choice? Some of you may suggest a PCI wireless card but personally, I think USB is more flexible.

866133 2010-03-11 21:09:00 But do you need it more flexible?

If you're only going to use it only on that computer I recommend a PCI card

PCI can have better performance because you can attach a bigger antenna to it, and the PCI bus can supply more power than a USB port can.

866134 2010-03-11 21:13:00 And if the computer / router its going to connect to, doesnt support wireless N, then it wont work like Wireless N. It'll run at wireless b or g speed Speedy Gonzales (78)
866135 2010-03-11 21:24:00 1. My router supports wireless N.

2. I can remove the USB unit easily and plug it in to another machine if so required.

3. Using a 'bigger antennae' (for PCI card) means more money to spend on it.

4. You reckon a PCI card gives better performance than USB?

5. Desktop PCs are usually sit under the desk and I would assume that the reception won't be good? - I maybe wrong, though.

866136 2010-03-11 21:32:00 Ok that should be fine then. Not all desktops go under a desk (the 3 here sit on a table). Altho, I wouldnt recommend putting it under a desk. It'll get full of dust sooner or later. I suppose if the adapter has a cable (and its within sight), it'll probably get better reception tho. It would be better than plugging it into the back of a case.. Speedy Gonzales (78)
