866959 2010-03-13 23:26:00 People on Superannuation might finish up better off too. It's sounding more like a good idea to me.

I hope the Goldcard will be extended to trans Tasman flights then. The Rort that is free ferries to Waiheke is not enough in my (not so) humble opinion. Not enough, I say! :p

866960 2010-03-13 23:53:00 Nope. I just decided I'd rather eat Fush 'n' Chups rather than Feesh 'n' Cheeps. Besides that I think our women are better as well.Gotta agree with you there. Greg (193)

From what I have heard and read the Goldcard has been misused much like disabled parking cards and etc.

There are also apparently forgeries much like drivers licenses etc.

I don't ever remember a sales person checking the signature on a credit card, bank card or driver licence.

Some people are so desperate to leave Australia.

So the sooner we hook up the better.

866964 2010-03-14 03:47:00 Great idea. Then there would not be a 20% difference in the currency and the US$ will also be better. But I can see the NZ polies not liking it as they would just become senators and the PM a state governor. The Maoris wouldn't like it as the treaty gravy train would come to the end of the line..

That, right there, is the single reason we should go with the idea.

Never happen though... :groan:

Not so quick, old guy!!!

I bet if this goes through that you'll be "grandfathered-out" and never see any new, changed benefits.

To get some REAL "rights" and benefits, just get a large Mexican hat, some Mexican shoes (In Spanish they are too hard to spell), and a guitar and a large serape, and just walk across the Mex-US border. Oh - look pregnant too even if you're male.

That way you can demand your US of Mexico Bill of Right, rights and get a full portion of free medical, free dental and even free obstetrics for that soon-to-be niño who will INSTANTLY be a US Citizen! .

Let us remember Jo,they can only stay on the gravy train while we pander to it.

And Yank Joe,remember the same thing.

The do gooders rule as I oft repeat.

Oh and the worst are those without an opinion.

866967 2010-03-14 06:55:00 NZ Farmers would do very well.
Retired people are far better off in Australia.
They have problems with the public health in Queensland that is unacceptable to most residents here - NZ would be crowing about how good the NZ public sytem was if it was only up to Queensland's standard.

Joe I don't really see where the parallel between this thread, and US/Mexico politics is, or what your point is.

There probably won't be any issue of grandfather rights to be worked through. There are no issues of vast tracts of land involved (e.g. Louisiana Purchase), NZ certainly has nothing such as the shameful confiscation of Indian lands to answer for, and Australia has set about putting right, the Aboriginal issues. My point is, NZ and Australia have a common heritage, politics, and whatever happens - as it seems inevitable it will - it will be a consensual partnership between two sovereign nations.

There are few lessons for Aust/NZ to learn from US / Mexico issues except by and large, we mostly got it right first time, and those issues we didn't get right, we're fixing.
