I see problems where the people making decisions are too far from the reality on the ground.

Also where decision makers are not accountable. Eg the people building the state houses years ago built them well - since they had to maintain them aswell later!

Exactly the points McKinnon and Moore made.

866951 2010-03-13 21:50:00 Never seen a nz cop with gun other than airport and on tv.

That's what I was talking about - NZ police at our international airports have been required by ICAO conventions to carry arms since around 1980, although early on, officers concealed them in clothing.

What other options do they have, even their hats are clothing?

866957 2010-03-13 22:50:00 :2cents: Nobody has asked me yet. I don't have a problem with it, we would be like the rest of Australia complaining about Canberra. Instead of just Auckland or Wellington, as we do now. Tasmanians still strongly declare they are Tasmanians; and so and so on, throughout the country. Marnie (4574)
866958 2010-03-13 22:59:00 The idea may have some merit but as of now those who want to go live in Aussie can do so anyway.

Having spent some 12 years there I found that each State had its own identity and rivalry much like the North Is vs South Is or , for that matter, Auckland vs The rest of NZ.

It would, of course, give the State of NZ more taxpayers to suck dry to honour treaty obligations though and NZ could set up tent villages for refugees paddling across from Indonesia. All the Aussie Aboriginies could move into Maraes where they may be more comfortable as well.

People on Superannuation might finish up better off too. It's sounding more like a good idea to me.

Nope. I just decided I'd rather eat Fush 'n' Chups rather than Feesh 'n' Cheeps. Besides that I think our women are better as well.
