| 866944 | 2010-03-13 21:09:00 | I think if centralisation of power is the way to go(since we all trust politicians with their existing power so much) why not jump australia and just have one world government ie like the EU when people have zero say what happens anyway.:banana | pkm (13527) | ||

| 866947 | 2010-03-13 21:28:00 | The poll suggested that 40% of people would be in favour of discussing the idea . It does not say 40% of people wanted to move in with Australia . Having just watched Holmes' Q&A show on TV1, some of the relevant points (without being in any order) were; 1) A poll conducted for the show reported that 25% unequivocally said " go to it" without further discussion . 2) The show had an Aussie politician from Maroochydore who mooted a much more digestible compromise on the subject of sovereignty - that a Confederation of Australia and New Zealand be formed (i . e . no such 7th State nonsense) 3) Don McKinnon opined we would probably naturally evolve into some kind of union during the next generation . 4) General agreement on the panel that losing our national sports identities was a red herring . If Britain can have Welsh, Scottish, and English teams, then that could be a model for any OZ and Kiwi set up . 5) If France and Italy can share the Euro, then we could easily share a common trans-Tasman currency . I share Don McKinnon's view, that we'll naturally evolve into a merger within the next generation, and that the process will result be much stronger than one shaped by political machinations . |
