1142303 2010-10-07 01:02:00 Hi there. Im looking at some 10" netbooks, HP Mini etc.
Is Win7 Starter or XP the way to go (speedwise etc ) ??
It will need to run Office as well, & be used by someone not computer savvy

Dont say Linux

I won't, as stated before it'll become pcuser42.

1142308 2010-10-07 05:31:00 I'd say 7, if it is a bit slow you can put a copy of XP on it and it will (or should) go fine. You can put a lighter OS on a better machine but it won't work so well the other way around The Error Guy (14052)

2x :D

It just feels better and more modern, networking might work better as well, longer for win updates etc. With Win2k, I find that networking works with W7 but it takes a while to warm up. A group of W7s just work. Wireless is better too on W7 not sure if that was the h/w related thou.

1142310 2010-10-07 08:38:00 the taskbar icons in 7 should make for easier multi-tasking on the small screen, too jareemon (5207)
1142311 2010-10-07 09:12:00 Done a bit of research on netbooks recently and come to the conclusion that the best value for money is the ASUS eee (it's on it's way to me but mine won't have MS Windows on it). johnd (85)
