1142271 2010-10-06 23:57:00 Hi, I have a Windows 7 x32 DVD, I created a ISO file using Img2burn, as MS's tool request for a ISO file . But it now says . . . the selected file is not a valid ISO file .

So . . does it work only by directly downloading a ISO file from the MS site?
Can normal people do this? Like if they bought Windows 7 but their system does not have a DVD drive .

I know I can download it cos I got it thru MS's IT Academy (thru my course) . Interested to know how normal people can do it . . .

1142272 2010-10-07 00:00:00 I followed this guide with success

www.intowindows.com

Aparently the MS USB tool only works with ISOs downloaded from the purchased MS Shop thingy

Umm .. for normal people is the MS Shop free, like if you bought Win7 but don't have a DVD drive? Or do you simply just purchase Win7 directly off their website?

1142275 2010-10-07 00:33:00 You buy off their site and download the ISO. I think its for students Speedy Gonzales (78)
1142276 2010-10-07 00:35:00 The problem is Imageburn has NOT made the ISO correctly. (no real surprise there)

Had to do one this morning with a Vista Install.

Install ISO Recorder (isorecorder.alexfeinman.com) first.

To make the correct ISO file it was simply put the vista OEM DVD into my W7 PC, right click the DVD drive, " Create Image From CD/DVD" and then load up the MS USB creator and load it into that.

Thanks, now working.
Why doesn't Imgburn work? I could use Imgburn to create an ISO and then copy to DVD to make a workable bootable DVD.

1142278 2010-10-07 02:21:00 Issue.
I could select the ISO file correctly, then I chose the USB stick (H: in my case) and then it formats then says "we were unable to copy your files". I have a 4GB cheap Lexar. 4GB too small or the USB stick too plain?

1142279 2010-10-07 02:48:00 The drive is big enough, W7 is only about 2.444 GB.

Got another Drive to try ?

PM coming, you'll see why ;)
