1142167 2010-10-06 18:54:00 I'm off to UK for three weeks in November, and I think I will take a flash drive with me with various bits of personal stuff on it. I want to get one that is (a) fast and (b) secure - encryption, separate secure partition etc.

Any recommendations? I've had a look around the net, and nothing leaps out at me. Most of the "name" manufacturers offer something of this nature, but personal experience is always a good indicator. It doesn't have to be particularly high capacity.

All advice welcome.

1142168 2010-10-06 19:02:00 Most are fast. Just buy one and install something like truecrypt portable on it, to encrypt it. Just dont forget the password. Or you'll never get into it! It looks like some kingston flash drives have AES 256 bit encryption.

If you want one (so you can put programs on it), get a U3 flash drive. Then you wont have to install whatever on a computer

1142169 2010-10-06 19:51:00 The reason I mentioned speed was that I have looked at Firefox portable to give some security in internet cafes etc., and it ran like a dog on my current USB drive - a Kingston Data Traveller. Also when I was trawling the net there was a range of speeds quoted from "standard" - whatever that means - up. Tony (4941)
1142170 2010-10-06 19:58:00 Instead of getting a U3 just get a normal flash drive and install Portableapps on it. nedkelly (9059)

1142174 2010-10-06 21:48:00 Or maybe also upload certain document/photo's online as a back up. I use Microsoft's Sky Drive (explore.live.com), Picassa Online, and Gmail. I did online back ups, after losing one of my pen drives in a clothing recycling bin... kahawai chaser (3545)

U3 is a special type of flash drive that has its own kind of start menu.

1142176 2010-10-06 22:52:00 I usually buy Corsair Voyagers, they go up to 128GB from 4GB and are one of the most robust and quickest around.
