868845 2010-03-21 00:00:00 Can anyone tell me if I dump sky tv, what channels will I be able to get? Do they take away the decoder and the dish?
I don't want to buy a freeview box either.

868846 2010-03-21 00:04:00 Yes they take away the decoder. You won't be able to get any sky channels or any channels that you receive via the Sky dish. They usually leave the dish.
:)

868848 2010-03-21 00:22:00 You'll need a regular UHF aerial to get standard TVNZ and TV3 channels.

Eventually when they discontinue analog TV you will have to have either freeview or Sky to receive digital.

868849 2010-03-21 00:43:00 Thanks pctek, Yes I have the old one up there still and as far as I know the coaxial cable is still there somewhere.

Not UHF. VHF.

868851 2010-03-21 02:06:00 I know you said you didn't want to buy a freeview STB, but have you seen prices?

This one for example is $79. That's less than 2 months Sky subscription.

There are many like that on Trademe.

868852 2010-03-21 03:02:00 They are now taking away the satellite dishes too. bob_doe_nz (92)
868853 2010-03-21 03:07:00 Not UHF. VHF.

UHF is preferred though - you can get Prime and Freeview then.

868854 2010-03-21 03:23:00 Pctek said that lakewoodlady would be able to get TVNZ channels and TV3 with a UHF antenna. That's what I was reffering to. You need a VHF for those channels. pine-o-cleen (2955)
