A trespass notice has been issued to a 74-year-old woman who blew a raspberry at North Shore mayor Andrew Williams - banning her for two years from the shopping centre where the incident happened.
Shirley Squire blew a raspberry at Mr Williams after calling him a "cowardly careerist" following his singing performance during Chinese New Year celebrations at the Northcote Shopping Centre.
Police issued Ms Squire a trespass notice a few days later, which banned her from entering the shopping centre and its surrounding area for two years.
Ms Squire, who wanted the trespass notice lifted, has said she waited until Mr Williams was off the stage before blowing the raspberry.
Martin Lawes, chairman of Mainstreet Northcote, requested police to issue the notice. He confirmed the trespass order was valid for two years, but refused to elaborate any further.
Mr Williams was unavailable for comment,

Is NZ becoming like the UK ?

Just because she is an old does not mean she should not show some respect to a mayor.
People like that should have a life ban if you want to abuse people thats your right but dont do it in privately owned shopping centre.

868335 2010-03-18 21:10:00 Some people in public office don't warrant respect.... in fact, some need a good kick in the icehole!

868336 2010-03-18 21:20:00 We are talking of a mayor that possibly deserves a bit more than a raspberry. He is only good at being against things; a grindstone has been suggested. R2x1 (4628)
868337 2010-03-18 22:06:00 It was embarrassing for the chinese culture group and people there. In asian culture thats as bad as it can get insulting a guest and losing face. Its a privately owned mall they can do what they want and good on them.
Sure the guy is a plonker although not as bad as our mayor harvery.
When we get the supa city those 2 numbnuts are gone burger.

What? Why, cause he got elected once? That makes him special?

And she blew a raspberry. She didn't shoot him. She didn't punch him. She didn't even swear at him.

Pathetic, and you too.

868342 2010-03-19 09:32:00 Making rude noises in front of pompous twits and if possible offending them is a time honoured and effective way of deflating over-sized egos, we need a lot more of it in New Zealand as well. zqwerty (97)
