868057 2010-03-18 20:14:00 Just put it up and have it pointing the same way as your other aerial. Which way is it pointing, east, south etc. Can you see the Waitakeres from your place and the Waiatarua transmitter as this is where your UHF aerial probably needs to be pointing.

The range of hills above Albany would block out line of sight to golf harbor.

868060 2010-03-18 20:30:00 Not supposed to do this but I have a 93 element UHF aerial that has never been used if you want to buy.
I paid $100 from DSE about 2 years ago but never got around to putting it up.

868062 2010-03-18 23:14:00 We are in North Canterbury (not much help to you I know in terms of where to point your aerial!). However, no-one else has recommended a Gizmo aerial. There is one on this house which we moved to last August.

The Gizmo is a fraction of the size of what we used to have on our old house (in effect, we had two aerials, one attached above the other on the pole, one being VHF and the other UHF). As far as I am concerned, the Gizmo works just as well, even though we are now 25kms further away from the transmitter than we were. Our TV installer said he had never seen a reception problem in Canterbury with a Gizmo.

You can check them out here: www.lincrad.co.nz

I have no idea of the price because the Gizmo was here when we bought the house. However, it gives a great signal for Prime (and Māori TV if that is also UHF), and presents a far lower profile to the nor west winds than the double layer thing we had at our ChCh house, which is an additional advantage.

The Gizmo is a low gain antenna suitable for prime signal areas only . For technical reasons (error correction etc) It will probably work better on digital signals than on analogue but it still has to drag enough signal out of the air to provide a good picture .

At Gulf Harbour you will probably need a 43 or 93 element . UHF signals are also subject to attenuation by rain and fog etc, as well as by refraction and layering effects which can make the signal strength vary day by day . What works in summer may be ratshit in winter so don't skimp on antenna or cable quality . Doing it twice is more expensive than doing it right first time .

Cheers
