868218 2010-03-18 07:25:00 If the World cup was held in my back yard I'd be inside having a beer.
Good thought.

If it was soccer though, I could be tempted into leaning out the window and seeing if I could shoot a batch of the sods.

868219 2010-03-18 07:28:00 I'll watch just about any sport (apart from soccer,1-1 after an hour?, piss off, And Cricket, I don't watch Cricket.), Though the All Blacks are the only team I follow.

If I cared enough about the Super 14 I'd know where all the teams came from but for me its a non-event.

868220 2010-03-18 18:44:00 Thanks for all your contributions, but most of you seemed to have missed the point. At least Darkstar was awake.

I was wondering why the teams only use animal names, or whatever, but do not include the name of their region or town? Are they ashamed of where they come from and so use an alias?

Would it not be a good idea to give the people, who might not be avid sports fans, a clue as to the regional identity of the team. Perhaps then you may attract some supporters who would be more interested in barracking for the Central Pulse, the Crusaders or the Sharks.

I have no idea where the Bulls, the Cheetahs or the Force come from. I might have vague interest in their sporting fortunes if they were from my region or town. But how does one tell?

Perhaps I should forget the idea and join the Michael Schumaker fans. At least it is no secret than he comes from Germany.

At least most don't come from the ministry of silly names, black this and black that.

Black caps play Australia,no longer NZ it seems.

But we don't have States in NZ YET.

868222 2010-03-18 23:27:00 To add to the above how many current AllBlacks were born in New Zealand? Sweep (90)

So few that the name is just about appropriate.

868224 2010-03-19 01:08:00 To add to the above how many current AllBlacks were born in New Zealand?Give up that kinda controversial shizza. Any Allblack has to be an NZ citizen. That's what counts. Greg (193)

868226 2010-03-19 08:54:00 Animal names etc have nothing to do with the team except maybe historically. Take SA for example, huge place, players from all over, which town should they pick? Too many to choose from. They would have to change names every week.

Like Mets cant stand soccer or cricket, Sky killed most sports, was great when it was free to watch.
