| 868048 | 2010-03-18 09:02:00 | The main transmitter is on the Waitakeres at Waiatarua, which is due SSW from Gulf Harbour. The Sky Tower is not a full power site and has only a few channels so you'll have aim for the main transmitter. The local transmitter is one channel only You should be able to get an idea of what antenna size and direction is needed by just driving around a few streets and looking at the "District Average". The element count for UHF antennas is a bit different to VHF, every cruciform element (4 lobes) counts as 4, so a 43 element only counts up to 9 of those (36) and the other 7 are the stuff that come after them. You may need a 90-something element jobbie. If you are not sure, get it installed for you, wiring up coax and fitting plugs etc is not as simple as it looks, and if you don't waterproof properly in a marine environment the cable will corrode out in no time.
