1142521 2010-10-15 09:46:00 I can't reinstall windows. When I put the XP disc in the drive I get the message that it cannot proceed because the disc contains an older version of windows.

I have been booting from the CD otherwise things wouldn't be working.
Otherwise I don't know what you mean.

Say what!?!

When you boot from the CD you get the option to either repair or install windows. When you choose to install you get the option of reformatting (erasing) your hard drive first. It does not matter what's on there already - it will all get deleted anyway.

You must boot from the hard drive to run windows. What.. exactly is your normal startup process?

1142522 2010-10-15 09:55:00 You change the bootdisk in the BIOS to the cd then boot from it, then format the hdd then reinstall windows. Hopefully, you have the key to install it Speedy Gonzales (78)

I am experiencing the combined mind deadening effects of Codeine and Clonazepam; which work together to put a stop to all intellectual activity!

Reading and understanding your posts. is difficult.

1142524 2010-10-15 19:33:00 Clearing the DNS cache / turning the service on, did the trick.
Everything seems to be working now.
Thanks for the help.
