1142222 2010-10-14 19:24:00 Thanks for thge offer but I'll live with the problem for the moment. Thanks to everyone for your help. If I do find the solution I'll post it up here. kiwibits (5574)
1142223 2010-10-14 19:33:00 Theres a VERY easy way to test if its Hardware or software causing the problem.

Boot from a Linux (ubuntu or other Linux OS's) live CD. Since the live OS runs from the CD it bypasses windows.

Once booted and running, plug in a USB drive, IF it crashes again , its hardware, if Not then its software (something in windows). If it doesn't crash the USB drive will appear on the desktop and you can open it.

1142224 2010-10-14 20:28:00 I don't think its a hardwareproblem as it works ok in safe mode but i'll try your idea coz it sounnd like fun. It might convert me to Linux and I'll be rid of the dark side. kiwibits (5574)
1142225 2010-10-14 20:48:00 If it is software, there are times when you simply have to reinstall Windows.

If this is the case, just make sure you backup everything to another place / drive and then do a fresh install.

1142227 2010-10-14 21:28:00 Got that right, if it has an easier way of adding printers, I might use it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1142228 2010-10-15 01:05:00 Just kidding, i hear you need to know what your're doing to use Linux and that rules me out kiwibits (5574)

Neither was Darth Vadar ... ;)

Nothing wrong with adding a printer in Linux. It was certainly easier than WinXP and OSX. Only thing that it was harder than was Win7, coz that was *easy* :D

Ubuntu is designed to be easy to use. Playing around with config files etc may be difficult if you have never done it before, but you won't have to do that to test out your system.

The GUI doesn't look exactly the same as Windows but most things are fairly obvious what they do.

In any case, all you need to do is stick the CD in, boot it up, and stick in your flash drive, see if it crashes or not.
