868395 2010-03-19 03:59:00 Thanks for asking that question, johcar.

It's something I've wanted to know myself, but never got around to enquiring.
(And I guess I'm probably not the only one)

868396 2010-03-19 04:26:00 Yes - I spotted some high milliamp/hour Panasonic AAs in the supermarket last week at a good price, so now I know I can buy them without having to worry about having yet another charger clogging up a powerpoint in the house! johcar (6283)

Yeah, I had some Eveready rechargables, either C or D size, I forget which.
By weight, they were only partially filled at one end only with NiCad, the remainder being empty space. A AAA battery would cost less and hold as much charge. Dirty!

If you sell a D sized rechargable, it should have the full volume used!

BTW, AA batteries are the same length as C, so with careful placement AA can be used in the place of C.

Dick SMith used to sell plastic housings that would take an AA batery, and bulk it up to D size, which is another handy way to avoid having batteries of every size in the house.

A good (safe) charger will control the current to the battery so that there is limited heating, and will also time the charging so that after X amount of charging the current is dropped to just a trickle.

868399 2010-03-19 06:08:00 I have seen some things that you put a AA inside of a case which is the size of a C battery, then your AA works like a C or if you need a D you just stick the C case inside a D. Really good idea I thought. nedkelly (9059)
868400 2010-03-19 06:24:00 I think I’ve tried just about every type of battery, but Sanyo eneloop are the best by far.

Recommended by godfather a year or two ago and he was right on the button. ;)
