1142571 2010-10-08 04:25:00 ok. System crashed, blank screen.
Hard restart, window will not load. Safe mode worked but not anymore.
Ubuntu gives me a horrid corrupted screen, that has the display twisted (right side of the screen showing on the left from mid way point). Top and bottom look like garbled static. I can no longer start X.

My guess is that it's either a blown gpu or video memory. There is no way to fix this, correct?

It's an hp3020tx, geforce 8400 card with 512 dedicated, i think.
I tried to run the self test from the post screen, it freezes at 20% on the hdd test, although i assume this may be because of ext partitions and unrelates to my problems.
Any ideas?

Can't be a driver issue as it's having issues in multiple operating systems.

Looks like it's time for a new lappy. :(

1142577 2010-10-08 23:26:00 if it is the GPU failed, you should be able to get it repaired under warranty and the new chips are supposed to have had the design flaw fixed Agent_24 (57)

The laptop is over two years old, so no warranty for me.
