1456394 2018-12-11 04:05:00 Hello
I have UFB and I am paying $10 a month extra to have a VOIP connection.
I have a telephone my desk, which I hardly ever use, as quite often the VOIP needs resetting.

I was thinking that I should save the space on my desk and save the $10 a month for the VOIP and just use my mobile phone for all calls.

I'd also like to remove the phone cable on the outside of my house as its a bit ugly.

Can you see any reason why I should not?

1456395 2018-12-11 04:19:00 I ditched ours and the only thing I miss is the idiots trying to sell me something or scam me in some way. Seriously unless you need a land line for business reasons I cannot think of a reason to have one. CliveM (6007)

1456397 2018-12-11 17:39:00 Only had cellphones for at least the last 6 years and no plans to change that. Even with all my family based in the UK it isn't a problem. gary67 (56)

I like landline, but here it's not mine, so we increased our cell plans and use that mostly now.

1456399 2018-12-11 18:05:00 We are old. Have always had a landline and wifey can be on it for ever. We have cellphones but only use them in case of emergencies like in the car and generally away from home.

Can't see the point of paying for what to me is an expensive plan just for the occasional usage as a telephone. I don't need a cell controlling me every minute of the day!

Nothing wrong with that Bryan. Just go with whatever suits your lifestyle. The point of the OP was is a LL needed now days and as pointed out it is not essential.

1456401 2018-12-11 22:10:00 I almost never used my landline and mainly had it so family could get hold of me, mostly Mum who refused to ring a mobile number.
So after Mum died (over 10 years ago now) I ditched the landline and have never missed it.

Scammers and salespeople don't ring mobile numbers either so my incoming calls dropped off a bit :)

It's a personal thing of course.

1456402 2018-12-11 22:20:00 We have kept our landlines , analog and VOIP. They are used all the time. Cell coverage where I live is pretty crappy on all carriers so the landline will be staying. paulw (1826)
1456403 2018-12-11 22:36:00 I have a landline - apparently had to have it when swapping interwebby services from Spark to Vodas. Why Vodafone needed one, but Spark didn't is unknown to me.

No idea what the number is. I toyed with the idea of buying a land phone, just like old times.

But nah. Turned out to be the same price as 2 dozen beers.
