1456243 2018-12-04 19:14:00 Sea salt and rock salt are readily available. But what is the difference? Surely salt is salt - sodium chloride, NaCl - wherever it comes from.

And I've even seen one brand that says it is natural salt. It even says it has natural iodine. You mean there is unnatural salt and unnatural iodine?

Is it just an advertising ploy or what?:waughh:

1456246 2018-12-04 21:04:00 With all the cows gases etc in the atmosphere, you could argue the sunlight they use to dry out the salt is unnatural the_bogan (9949)
1456247 2018-12-04 21:20:00 Salt from NZ is naturally deficient in iodine. It has to be added to prevent goiters.

Not quite right. It is the soil, not the salt, that is low in iodine.Iodine is added to the salt to redress that deficiency.

And it has had the side effect of causing an increase in goiters in NZ now as people went away from the iodised table salt we all used to us.

I stick with plain, iodised salt, I'd rather have no goiters or other thyroid issues than silly overpriced salt.
