1454439 2018-10-14 09:04:00 Does anyone use one of these devices?

I'm looking into purchasing one as I have some drawings I would like to trace and then be able to edit the tracings to improve them, I have tried with a mouse but can't get the precision I want.

1454440 2018-10-14 18:01:00 There's different types depending on how much you are willing to pay.

The cheaper end is just a drawing pad and lower pressure sensitive pen while the more expensive end a graphics pad allows you to literally see your screen you are drawing in and has more features that give you a toolbox for changing brushes, colour, etc.

Wacom probably be the most well known brand but I use Huion GT which is an alternative chinese graphics tablet at a reasonable price.

I wouldnt say I am pro drawer but those who are can literally get away with using either type but the graphics tablet is far easier to draw on screen than to keep an eye on the actual screen. I guess the difference for me is using the eraser a lot less.

I'm not sure about tracing, never tried it but you may find it easier to scan then trace over it with a graphics tablet as its quite difficult to maintain the cursor position if screen and pad are different in size.

A Huion drawing pad is quite cheap if you just want to try it out, me personally a graphics tablet if you consider doing more.

1454441 2018-10-14 19:19:00 many years ago I had one. This was in the late '80s. It was a piece of junk. Didn't work at all like the ad.

I would try before I bought again....

1454444 2018-10-15 05:30:00 Or the Huion H950P which has great reviews. I assuming I can use something like Gimp or Google Sketchup or even MSPaint gary67 (56)
1454445 2018-10-15 06:44:00 You would want to use a vector based program like Inkscape which is free and excellent to use. Wacom seems to offer Corel products but they aren't necessary. I find I never really learnt their artistic features and just prefer natural drawing compared to tweaking, it's got more style and flare to it.

Just basing them on specs. The Wacom is quite far under the specs for the Huion. Wacom has a smaller usuable area, 4K battery free pen, 133 reading pen speed and resolution of 2540lpi. The Huion has an 8K battery free pen, 233 rps and resolution 5080lpi. I can't see how many nibs the Huion gives you but normally it'll be a lot more than Wacom.

Since there's only roughly $30 difference I know I'd go for Huion. You should watch people drawing/reviewing with them on YouTube to see their capabilities, now I know these guys will be pros at it but they can give you all the hints and pitfalls. Looking at the pens for both, they look fine, maybe the Huion is a bit wider but the important thing for me is keeping the buttons on the side further up as you sometimes push them by accident if they are too close to the tip and this can be annoying.

You may also want a drawing glove. It's basically just lycra and nylon for the base of your hand and lower 2 fingers and wrist to help you glide over the tablet easier.

I have one of these sitting somewhere which I never use. Happy to send it to you if you'd like, it's not getting any use here.

1454448 2018-10-15 08:36:00 After watching quite a few youtube reviews of both tablets I have ordered the Huion H950P.

Thanks for the offer though Nick G.

Will give my thoughts once I have used it a few times. In one of the videos I watched they were basically doing exactly what I want to to do tracing over an existing drawing.
