1453741 2018-09-23 05:26:00 I was trying to install Windows 7 onto a Dell Inspiron i7 computer with a USB stick.
The installation failed due to not having a USB driver, so I found a suitable driver and copied it to the USB stick. When I browsed to the stick all the original folders were visible, but the folder I had added was missing. I had a look at it with the file manager, and it was there. I checked to see that the folder was 'hidden' but it wasn't hidden or read only.

I can't understand why the folder was invisible.
No other drive was visible, that's why I placed the folder on the USB drive being used.

1453742 2018-09-23 23:13:00 How are you actually using the USB or how was it created? My only guess is that the file system on the USB may not be able to add a folder to it in that way.

If it's ISO then even though Windows can add to it, it didn't do it the proper way, which needs to update the index but Windows can't remaster that type of file system without other programs.

If it's FAT or NTFS, then maybe it's not in sync but it's hard to understand what this USB actually is, as it doesn't seem it was created to be used as storage.

That makes zero sense :-)
you are basically saying you can and cant see it.

"browsed to the stick" ? meaning what ? using file explorer ?
"looked at it with file manager" using Wins explorer? , or another 3rd party file manager ?

is this in windows , or when you booted from the USB as part of the setup ?

The USB is Fat32, was prepared by Rufus as an ISO, not DD .
I added the driver in a folder with W10 file manager .
The second 'browsing' which couldn't see the new folder was with the installation gui
The third 'browsing' was again with W10 file manager (explorer), folder was visible .
The fourth 'browsing' was with Linux Mint, folder was visible .

I think Kame has the answer "it needs to update the index" .

I managed in the end by installing W7 on another computer, made an image of it with Macrum, and re-deployed it to the Dell . Works fine but needs a WiFi driver, and USB 3 driver which so far have eluded me .
