Just watched a vid that said to type into RUN

temp
%temp%
and
prefetch

and then delete all the files that pop up.

Is this legit, or more internet crap from someone who should have moved out of his mothers home 30 years ago?

Ta.

1453730 2018-09-18 08:47:00 Its not crap, but there are other ways to do it. Running programs like Ccleaner and diskcleanup ( built into windows) will clean a lot out, re the prefetch, read the first answer on the MS forums - HERE (answers.microsoft.com) and answers.microsoft.com (https:)

What (if anything) are you trying to do /achieve ?

Oh for a dollar every time someone asked me that!

Just a cleanup, keep the puter running at its best. Nothing too dodgy.

1453732 2018-09-18 20:25:00 As Wainuitech says Ccleaner does much the same.
None of them clean it all though, they err on the side of caution, especially in the registry.

better than randomly following an instruction like that is to go into Windows Explorer and delete the contents of the temp folders etc.

I also used to like JRT (Junk Remover Tool), cleans out browser stuff as well, better the CCleaner.

1453734 2018-09-18 21:56:00 if using CCleaner either get a old (pre Avast) version, or the very latest & disable all the 'phone home with your data' options
www.zdnet.com

avoid old version v5.33 .

1453735 2018-09-19 07:38:00 Looks like CCleaner thinks it knows best by installing the latest version even when the user selecting a earlier version

ttps://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/software/ccleaner-disregarding-settings-and-forcing-update-to-latest-546-version/

There is ways to get around the problems but I would just not use as it add's some sus stuff
