1453718 2018-09-17 15:19:00 Before I do it and things go smoke-o.... I thought I'd ask if I can use a USB self-powered hub in one of the USB ports on my RaspberryPi?

The current four USB ports are all in use .......

1. mouse
2. sound card
3. Alpha WiFi unit
4. keyboard

BTW: I can firmly attest to the UGREEN USB Soundcard (duckduckgo.com). It has stereo (T-R-S) headphone/line out and on this model, a mono microphone (T-S) input port and it works a treat.

This post is coming from my Pi too. And .... I've got a 4 hour lab and a 2 day class at The Bitterroot College for the Pi coming up in a few weeks -- free for US Vets, even though I have my own Pi already.

:-)

"there's a limit to how much current you can pass through a Raspberry Pi. When used with a WiFi dongle, mouse and keyboard, a connected Hard Drive or external webcam can be all too much"

Seems you need to be carefull if you go with a powered hub.

1453720 2018-09-18 03:24:00 OK --- I see that I might be pushing the PS a little too hard with all four up-n-running via the legacy USB ports.

I have a nice powered USB Hub that I've had lying around for years that I think I'll try. It's a Belkin F5U021, 4-port.

In the past I've run all sorts of USB 'things' on it, so I think it's a good-un. Thanks - I'll be looking for spots where the smoke gets out.
