I don't think of Tauranga as a 'city', in the same way that Auckland and Welly are.

We don't think of Auckland and Welly as a cities either. More like an inescapable bog of stagnant traffic. Beware Tauranga, you are heading that way as well. Getting to be a bit of a pain driving around there.

1456497 2018-12-13 17:11:00 Yes the traffic in some parts of Tauranga is getting to be gridlocked.
Especially 15th Avenue and parts of Greerton.

I checked out the Tauranga City Councils website and they do have a plan for 15th avenue.

When they widen it, there will be Dedicated Bus lanes on either side.
So still no more car lanes!

"This will free up traffic as more people will use the buses and there will be less cars"
Idiots.
Every new house they approve in Welcome Bay or Ohauiti etc etc, is one or two new cars on 15th Avenue/
Idiots
And every new house at the Lakes is another car or two driving along Cameron Road.

1456498 2018-12-13 17:12:00 I still say the reason they have put tinted glass windows on the buses is so that ratepayers cannot see inside to see how empty they are. Digby (677)

As it should be! :)

I forgot to say that when they widen 15th avenue, there will still only be single lanes for cars with new dedicated lanes for empty buses, subsidized by us, with tinted windows so that we cant see in.

1456501 2018-12-14 18:21:00 Just remember that we vote these idiots in. If they are making stupid decisions it is our fault for putting them in a position to make them. CliveM (6007)
1456502 2018-12-14 21:18:00 Why are they empty? people won't use them? poor interconnecting routes/services? No discount scheme (Like AT Hop card - and 5x transfer no/low extra-cos (at.govt.nz)t) Perhaps little cost saving compared to personal vehicle use. In Auckland I have seen numerous empty AT buses - including the frequent route 70 double decker ride - The 1 hour or so Botany to Auckland City Britomart bus. Train carriages which I use sometimes (Eastern Line), are quite empty too, during mid morning - afternoon.

But I think empty is part of it, or somewhat deceptive. I took the 70 route- yes many empty seats, through the outer suburbs (Botany, Panmure, Pakuranga, Ellerslie, Greenlane until inner busy shopping suburbs - notably upmarket Newmarket. So could be about convenient connections - from a small leg e.g. (last quarter) of the journey to get to central city. or to pick up train passengers (albeit a few sometimes - again convenience) from the new and quite large interchanges. Notably Panmure, Otahuhu, and Sylvia Park on the Eastern Line.

1456503 2018-12-14 21:39:00 Empty buses should be filled with Gold card holders. That is how us oldies can help. (between 9 & 3pm of course)

Doing our bit for the country. :)

The person who designed the Greerton roading changes should fired. Most likely the same idiot who designed the Barks roundabout traffic lights. This would be one of the worst road changes I've seen since leaving Auckland.
