1456507 2018-12-12 18:15:00 Husband says it's the tidiest city he has ever been in.

I would agree. OK, Maraenui - some places can be scruffy - but in general, and especially in Taradale, it's not only tidy, it's pretty.
Not just those with lovely gardens (and why are roses such a thing here?) but those without, also have neat, trimmed properties. Even the shops too.

I do not like Bluff Hill area at all, it reminds me of Ponsonby, all those wee houses with no garages, but with a cliff face jutting out of it. Yuk. And in an earthquake zone?

I love Taradale and that inland part surrounding it.

And I can't see why Maraenui is the **** zone, it's 5 mins to town and the beach one way and 5 mins to the countryside and growers etc the other.
Perhaps, like Te Atatu North it will change as the place expands.

People are far nicer here than in Southland.
Not one jaffa comment from anyone here...

My one whinge is that it is so hard to get any kind of tradesman, in particular gardening people.
Builderscrack, Nocowboys, none of them even seem to bother.

The come round and never heard from again type...the book it in and then never turn up at all type.
They will get back to you and 2 years later, still haven't type.

Beats me how they make a living.

1456508 2018-12-12 18:48:00 Napier is a nice place

Usually make it too the Mission concert and even for a Weekend it's a great tonic even for someone from Tauranga which is becoming a Hell Hole

Yes 5/10 minutes either way gets you to somewhere different ,Eskdale,Hastings,Havelock North,Cliffton Beach

Every time down there someone says it would be a nice place to live

1456509 2018-12-12 20:06:00 All the dead dolphins from the old Seaworld didnt seem to like the place. They made good fertilizer though.
So many died , they were buying them in secret in back yards .

1456511 2018-12-13 04:22:00 Great place! Water is a problem. For 55 years I have lived here it has been just the best. There water has always been a pleasure to drink. Then with all the problems they had in Havelock North they decided our water in Napier had a trace of faecal matter so they chlorinated the hell out of it. Now it tastes bloody awful I rang and suggested they get rid of the chlorine and add a bit of shite to it. I don't think it would taste any worse, but anything would taste better than the dammed chlorine!!

Glad you are enjoying it here though.

1456513 2018-12-13 06:07:00 I haven't tried it but according to uncle google all you have to do you reduce the chlorine content is put the water in an open jug and leave it for a bit.
sciencing.com

I added a water filter to my kitchen sink when I moved in here because the water tasted metallic, they are cheap enough and it did the trick.

1456514 2018-12-13 10:09:00 I used to go to Napier/ Hastings quite regularly and was also impressed with the neat/tidy/clean look of the towns. The one negative attribute I came across was some of the residents crazy driving! Obviously a minority of hoons, but a bit more concentrated than I'm used to. Laggard (17509)
1456515 2018-12-13 18:13:00 Auckland had chlorine forever.....I have no patience with the nutters who claim chlorine causes all sorts of skin, health and HWC problems.
Nonsense.

Far better to have safe water than cholera, typhoid or even the minor in comparison campylobacter.

Sunlight kills chlorine, and has been said, so does putting your water in a jug.

My mum was doing this ever since she lived here, she didn't trust the water so boiled it, cooled it and put it in bottles in the fridge.

But back to the pretty look of the place.
We are working on her section, making some gardens and things...no roses though.

Hastings is black central, crime ridden place.
