| 1143330 | 2010-10-10 20:45:00 | I've built about a thousand computers on the job and dozens personally and didn't wear a Anti Static Wrist Strap but I haven't built one for 3 years so with all this new technology I wonder if using Anti Static Wrist Strap is a good idea or just watch what you're doing? | lostsoul62 (16011) | ||

| 1143332 | 2010-10-10 20:56:00 | When working on my pcs I dont usually use one, but with other peoples pcs I always use one | nedkelly (9059) | ||

| 1143334 | 2010-10-10 21:01:00 | Static mats are more common in workshops, however even using common sense goes a long way. Don't hold Ram, video cards by its conductive pins, hold it by the non conductive PCB edges etc. A PC plugged in but not powered on is to some degree earthed anyway. Avoid working on carpet. I also believe the effect static shock on modern components is not as great as 20 years ago, Component reliability is vastly superior in general. |

| 1143335 | 2010-10-10 21:11:00 | I don't have a strap. But I do use an anti=static mat (earthed) and do earth the PC case, then touch it when handling components to earth myself. better safe than sorry. |
