1142984 2010-10-09 18:52:00 Is there a programme available that runs under WinXP that will test a USB HDD for errors?

I would like one with a end report of Bad Sectors - MBR – SMART etc. as opposed to Passed - Failed for the complete test.

I tried Seatools, but a lot of the tests I want to run come up as “Unavailable”?

:thanks

1142985 2010-10-09 19:31:00 Probably be better if you remove the hdd and put it in the case. Or connect it outside the case. Then test it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1142986 2010-10-09 19:35:00 agree with speedy, since the drive is operating off the USB controller, not the SATA or IDE controller the program may not be able to get certain information and/or certain diagnostic functions could be unavailable The Error Guy (14052)
1142987 2010-10-09 21:10:00 That's just the point, it is a USB Drive without any facilities to connect to IDE or SATA as far as I know? B.M. (505)
1142988 2010-10-09 21:25:00 Just found This software (http://hddscan.com/) - its free, and does scan a USB drive.

Just trying it now, and it located and is doing a surface scan on a 160GB USB drive.

1142991 2010-10-09 22:53:00 Worked Fine on My W7 Ultimate ? wainuitech (129)
1142992 2010-10-09 23:19:00 not sure, i won't say much more, don't want to take over this thread. but the window never opens, process starts, gets to around 8400k and stops. left it for about 10 mins but it just sat there. not able to poke around and see whats happening now, ill try later tonight maybe. 1142993 2010-10-09 23:24:00 One thing I did find with that program, it wouldn't run from a USB drive, but if I copied the extracted folder over to the desktop, then it worked. wainuitech (129)
