1143379 2010-10-12 20:18:00 Has anyone seen my marbles? I think I lost them around about here somewhere!!

So, to get this straight - I need to download the 123Mb file as shown in Wain's first link in post just above right? (www.disk-image.net)

Well then, what's the 10.6Mb download on the same page that I've downloaded (from this and different sites) that I've been playing with and that has given the probs?

Wain, hope you have a better day today.

The CBS file which is the report from sfc /scannow is 1951 A4 pages long!! Is there a key word I can look for in it that will show me where the problems are?

1143380 2010-10-12 23:27:00 The 10.6 MB TRIAL download is just the onboard program, doesn't contain the bootable cd maker ( hope that makes sence), the 123MB contains both. When you purchase it, the download link you are given is the 123 MB. ( thought I'd better mention that)

Wain, hope you have a better day today.
OH Yeah :clap :punk Fair humming along.

The problem I had yesterday (really pissing me off) was the customers drive would clone, but wouldn't boot afterwards. No cloning software, Acronis,Paragon and I even tried Driveimage XML this morning - all failed with the same result.

I loaded back the image off the USB drive I made last night with Active@ - :clap perfect !

Hmm the sfc file, -- when it finished there would have beenva basic report - that may be enough, what did it say ?

1143382 2010-10-13 01:24:00 Hi Wain

I'l run sfc again. I had to run it in safe mode cos in noral mode it was denying me access even tho I'd typed in cmd in the search box and right clicked on the cmd.exe link and chosen "Run as administrator", so what's denying me access?

Snork - that seems quite acceptable to me - what do others think?

1143383 2010-10-13 02:48:00 When you log into Vista or W7, even if you have the account as Admininstrator, you actually aren't the "real" administrator.

200GB clone -- not to shabby time wise.

1143384 2010-10-13 06:31:00 Hi....

So I decided to try doing an image using Active@ Disk Image whilst in safe mode. First I opened “Computer” and double licked on F drive and got the error message shown here. Attached file: Contents_of_F_Drive2.png (www.imagef1.net.nz) (10 KB)

I fired up Active@ Disk Image and followed the imaging wizard and having clicked the final button in the process the error message here Attached file: Starting_the_Image2.png (www.imagef1.net.nz) (18 KB) turned up.

The computer is seeing F drive - see this Attached file: Double_Clicking_on_F_Drive2.png (www.imagef1.net.nz) (19 KB)

(Whoops - the first and third are round the wrong way - sorry)

Any idea what the error messages mean?
tuiruru (12277)
1143385 2010-10-13 07:47:00 As a guess, I'd say its not the Active program thats the root of the problem, its damage to the OS somewhere. (after changing 1st to third picture as advised) if you open the "computer" and get the error This one (www.imagef1.net.nz) which if I read the post correctly is picture 3 but 1st sentence?

If I read it right, in Picture 1- which relates to "The computer is seeing F drive" is this after you get the error message ?

This is obviously running from within windows - IF you were using the Bootable CD, you shouldn't get the errors. BUT while thats a work around, its not a fix as IF there is a problem with the OS its only going to get worse.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but is did you recently reinstall this - and didn't it give some sort of problem ?

Never seen that error message before.

Edited: didn't you write to the company ? if so it may pay to send a copy of the error message, they may have an answer ????

PS the program does work in safe mode if there are no other problems, I tried it, and it works, just everything was bigger (Icons, writing) as you get in safe mode.

1143386 2010-10-13 20:36:00 'Morning Wain

Yep, had trouble in Aug last year (see here:forums.pcworld.co.nz) where the hard drive failed and got replaced under warrenty.

Image 3 in my post "Double Clicking on F drive" is what I get when I've just gone into safe mode and am trying to look at F drive by double clicking on it. Image 1 "Contents of F drive" is what I get if I right click on on F: and choose "explore" and that still happens after I get the error message in Image 2 when I try to make an image.

I have e-mailed the company with all this - I got a reply from the first one when I sent them the same description of the initial problem as posted here, along with a Belarc Advisor report of the innards if my lappy. I got a brief reply saying they couldn't tell what was wrong from the info I'd sent them. They've had everything since including the images but as yet no reply.

Is it worth running chkdsk? Do I just need to use the /r switch?

Can you make an image running from the bootable CD?

Thanks

1143387 2010-10-13 21:31:00 Just received this reply from "The Company"

It is sometimes necessary (always preferred) to back up a system disk from a bootable CD or DVD. The demo of Disk Image does not allow creation of a boot CD or DVD. This is due to our agreement with Microsoft about the distribution of media containing their Vista PE code. We have a product (boot disk for windows) which has a fully functional (for 10 days) version of Disk Image and it is (needs to be) run from a boot CD. You can use the boot disk to test the software, and, if it suits your needs, either buy Disk Image standalone (which will allow you to make a boot disk which contains only Disk Image or you can purchase the boot disk for windows which contains Disk Image and several data recovery / data destruction tools. You can obtain the free demo of Boot Disk for Windows from the link below.
http://www.livecd.com/
Please try the disk image form this boot disk to see if it fixes your problems.

1143388 2010-10-13 21:36:00 For imaging I use Clonezilla from PartedMagic.
I am about to trial GFI and Areca backup for someone and will let you know how it goes.
