2010-10-11 22:54:00 | Seagate & Western Digital both have free disk Imaging software (cut down versions of Acronos) Both work really well & can run off a bootable CD. Given the advice above, I'll throw my (freeware) Paragon image software in the trash. Not worth the risk. :badpc:

2010-10-12 00:16:00 | Neil how come it was already registered to you? I paid for it and then got a link to download the full version. That full version showed as registered to me. As to why you're having problems with the trial version....perhaps wainuitech can help!

2010-10-12 00:28:00 | Macrium works great for me. I have bought the 'paid for' version but don't really use the extra features yet. The free one works very well, too. I have used it to restore successfully several times.

2010-10-12 01:38:00 | bloody hell what a day so far-- and its not over yet :waughh: To answer some of the questions -- The reviews posted -- What a load of crap. Active@ Disk Image has a lot of blanks but do I really need what's missing. Maybe who ever did them needs to be shot. Some of the things listed as not being there. Incremental backups Re-size during restore Scripts Split Image sizes Copy Drive to Drive Password protect Customize label Network ALL capable. Some examples:Types of Backups (www.imagef1.net.nz) -- Scripts (www.imagef1.net.nz) look at the tabs. As for the others all there. The full version of the Software, allows you to create a Bootable CD, other wise if you want to try it out first, simply download the installer and bootable CD - the trial works for 21 days. tuiruru - As for not installing -- all I can think of is a damaged registry someplace - cleaned the registry using Comodo System Cleaner (it seems to find more than Ccleaner and I've never had any trouble with it) You got to be real careful with reg cleaners, some go overboard and remove keys they are not meant to. I Suggest you run sfc /scannow through and see if it finds any faults. ( this may not fix the reg, but shouldn't hurt either.

2010-10-12 01:39:00 | I've found that booting off the Acronis boot disc and making an image takes longer than using the program in Windows. Acronis TrueImage, in versions prior to Vista, had a problem with the boot disc not acting on folder exclusions. eg if you specified that My Documents be excluded, the GUI accepted it but it didn't happen in practice! (even if the folder had a closing slash). Couldn't tell whether or not it excluded pagefile.sys I think only the boot disc had this problem - a possible reason for the installed version being faster. The installed version also has more GUI options - it's a significantly different piece of software But since I went to Win7 I've been using Win 7's built-in imager - it's great.

2010-10-12 06:06:00 | Hi Wain or anyone else that knows the answers to these questions Re my error message..... I got the first error message about Active@ Disk Image before I cleaned the registry but I had added a few extra keys into it trying to solve my Vista Shutdown problem. So I used System restore to wind the computer back to before I'd started fiddling. However, I still had the problem. I ran sfc /scannow in safe mode and it said that it had identified some problems that couldn't be fixed. Do you want me to post the log file? but read on first Whilst I was in safe mode a tried running Active@ Disk Image and lo and behold it seemed to be working. I didn't actually start an image but went thu' all the steps before that. So, obviously something in my normal start up is getting in the way. I disabled a few of the recent addition using msconfig but the problem persisted. I has been running a program called Copy Handler which speeds up copy time so I thought that might be getting in the way so I uninstalled it. No help. So, what's the best way to try and identify the culprit just disable them in msconfig one by one? Alternatively, is it OK to run Active@ Disk Image in safe mode? Is it slower like that? Will the rescue CD boot into safe mode, cos if it doesn't I'm still stuffed. Whilst we're on the subject of the rescue CD is that the 123 Meg download seen here: www.disk-image.net Does it work with the trial version? You've been very patient with this so far (despite what seems to have been a prick of a day for you) so thanks for that. I have actually e-mailed this problem to support@lsoft.net so it'll be interesting to see if they get back to me

2010-10-12 07:50:00 | If sfc has given the problems, then yep, post what the problem is - it may or may not help. Old story having info can sometimes help, where as having to guess is just that - a guess :D If its working in safe mode, then it looks like there is a driver problem / clash someplace. If you want to use the CD, that can make an image to a LAN or USB Drive, nothing to do with the actual OS. Example, I have a customers PC here (the pig one today) normal cloning of the drive doesn't work, but I have made an image to a USB drive, then going to image it back to a larger drive -- Will be interesting to see if it boots OK (long story - dont ask) :p The trial you want that has the program & bootable CD is The one circled (www.imagef1.net.nz),it will work for 21 days, so plenty of time to see if its right for you. The full paid version has a lite version of the boot disk (rescue) as per the Features Listed (www.disk-image.net). You've been very patient with this so far (despite what seems to have been a prick of a day for you) Narrrrr not really a prick of a day, lets say, all my 3 workstations are full with Busted PC's, 2 laptops to fix as well, and another two new PC's to build, as well as answering the phone making appointments for next week plus I have a few other appointments later this week. TIME to spare - whats that ?? working 9-5, great Tui's ad. ;) not enough time in the day - lunch from 12-12.15. Tomorrow will be more to my liking.

Restoration requires you to to create a live Bart PE disc with DIXML on it but is not too hard there are instructions on You Tube as well as the Runtime software site | PPp (9511) | ||
