| 869273 | 2010-03-23 05:16:00 | My brother in law has a spinal/neck injury . He cannot stand for long, cannot bend, cannot sit for long, is on medication and can no longer drive and the list goes on . But ACC bumped him as there own *specialist* deemed him fit for work against the advice of the hospital and his own specialist . Onto the sickness benefit and he has been hounded by the Client Managers or whatever WINZ calls them, he has been sent for computer training, he has been sent for training as a mechanic, they have even sent him to a car wreckers, none of those jobs he can do owing to his injury but they send him anyway . And all the time threatening to bump him off the sickness onto the unemployment benefit if he doesn't come to the party and get a job . He would love to get a job simply to get WINZ off his back . But what job ? Now, while I do not appreciate people that bludge off the various benefits, as a previous message suggested, it will be those that have a genuine need to a benefit that will be the worst off, those that make a living bludging will already have a back up plan or two to fall back on . Someone also mentioned 20 hours free child care that the govt pays for . Correct me if I am wrong and national may have changed it but the 20 hours free child care applied to 3 and 4 year olds at kindy upto 20 hours total whether at one or more childcare/kindy(s), after 20 hours the childcare/kindy(s) could charge for the extra hours . I remember when Shipley and co were running the show all those years ago where people were going to get pushed into jobs, this new plan might be different from what National tried before, back then I think it was called work for the dole . My wife lost her job when her underhanded employer found he could *employ* new staff off WINZ for I think 6 weeks or 3 months at almost no cost and then replace them at the end of there training for new staff . Underhanded employers will love it if they can get free staff who only need a small top up over the benefit . Most of us are probably all for work . . . . . if it was available . |

Totally agree with you, there are probably many people that have phantom bad backs and they are the one's who are bludging off you and I. |

| 869276 | 2010-03-23 05:39:00 | Not yet. My Dr was going to get me to go to some psychologist for free (they normally charge $150-160 an hr IIRC). But, the way he said it, (since I would get counseling for free, dont fail), it put me off. So, I'm not going to bother going there. I even went to a psychologist while I was working (that didnt work either). I may send Phobic trust an email. And see what happens I think you should contact them, you need to do everything you can to get back to some sort of normal life Have a read of this article www.nzherald.co.nz Also The Phobic Trust runs a 24-hour helpline: 0800 142 694 389 |

Youngest son goes spaso when he sees a cockroach, wife scared ****less of running out of stuff like firewood, food and household items she grossly overstocks the cupboards with stuff. She was bought up up in a dirt poor kampong in singers might have something to do with it. Me I hate anything to do with sewers. |

My son suffers from something similar and the only way he gets through is with medication. Fortunately he has a tolerance for it and hasn't had the bad reactions that Speedy has. No one ever knows what it is like to have an illness like that and need lots of support. Lucky for my son he can hold down a part time job and live as "normally" as possible. Speedy if I ever met you I would give you a big hug just like I do for my son. LL :) |

| 869279 | 2010-03-23 06:11:00 | I was epileptic, that was the reason I took the medication, and what caused my memory loss for 25 yrs . And thats why, I went off them . I had too many bad side effects, (memory loss was the major side effect, aggression was another), inc accidentally taking too many (because I forgot that I had taken them more than once), and I ended up with barbiturate poisoning . Thats how bad my memory was then . Once, I was even hallucinating . That really freaked me out And yup, I have worked previously (for 16 yrs in Auckland that is) . I have worked before then tho (on farms, when I was younger), and my employers accepted my condition . This is the reason, why I dont drive now (because I was still taking drugs then), and by the time I went off them in 1991, I think you had to be drug free for 5 yrs or something . But by then, I just couldnt be bothered with trying to get a licence or getting a car (even tho I can drive) . Since where I am now, there's a bus stop outside and across the road |

| 869281 | 2010-03-23 06:43:00 | Have you any idea where National are going to find the jobs for these people to go and do? And don't tell me a cycleway is going to help much in that regard. Companies are going off-shore in droves. We are in great shortage of labourers (jobs that will dirty your hands, clothings, etc.) but local 'kiwis' are not interested. Only immigrants will take up those kind of jobs - that's because they can't get a job in the office, not because they are not qualified but usually over-qualified. lol. Problem here is: Don't know how Key's govt going to put those kiwis into those kind of jobs! Let's wait and see. |
