1143359 2010-10-11 17:45:00 I've found that booting off the Acronis boot disc and making an image takes longer than using the program in Windows.

Odd I have always had the opposite

now I use the active@boot disc instead

1143360 2010-10-11 18:47:00 How do you make an image (onto CD/DVD) of Drive XML's images? It's currently sitting in my spare HD but I thought I should try save it somewhere else too.

1143361 2010-10-11 19:27:00 Decided to take the plunge and buy Active@. They sent me a registration code and no way would it fit the register box,one block short.Until I realised the file I downloaded was preregistered to me anyhow!
Then trying to create a boot disc,no way could I select an optical drive, until I loaded a cd first!
I paid for Acronis years ago, but got sick of all the updates.Mind you it has saved my bacon a few times.Has always worked.

Playing Devil's Advocate on the non free stuff have a look here:

Active@ Disk Image has a lot of blanks but do I really need what's missing. I haven't even got a file server here - just the lappie and the external drive.

I'm going to download an evaluation copy and see how I go with it but was the basis of their recovery CD that you only get access to once you've paid? How do I know it will work and is it going to require another download of something in order for me to make it?
Thanks for your time so far.

1143363 2010-10-11 19:43:00 Hi tuiruru,

It was total time for cloning one hard dive to the other so I had two identical hard drives.

That's what I think as well.I only do a full image.

Once the program is registered the option to make a recovery disc is available.

1143365 2010-10-11 20:52:00 Err..Sorry to be a painin the ... but ...what's the difference between an incremental backup and a differential one? tuiruru (12277)
1143366 2010-10-11 21:47:00 Have a look here:-

www.backupcritic.com

Some time today I'm going to try an image using Active@ from a 200 Gig seagate to an External USB2 200 Gig Maxtor and see what the time difference is if any.

1143368 2010-10-11 22:53:00 Problems Problems Problems

OK - I downloaded and installed the trial version of Active@ Disk Image. When I tried to run it I got a little pop up box saying:
“Active@ Disk Image has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”

So I uninstalled it using Revo uninstaller and rolled back the restore point that I had created prior to the installation. I then cleaned the registry using Comodo System Cleaner (it seems to find more than Ccleaner and I've never had any trouble with it), rebooted and did a new installation. Got the same message.

Any ideas as to what the fault is and what I do next?

Could the Macrim and Paragon installations be interfering with it?
