| 869483 | 2010-03-24 07:17:00 | The proposition fails on the count that there isn't sufficient jobs. Successive Governments have crucified the small employer with costs and regulations so he/she is no longer prepared to take on staff. Not many One Man Band tradesmen are prepared to take on apprentices or staff of any sort because of all the costs and red tape. Among the many things an Employer is burdened with is the inability to Sack someone for non performance because of the stupid Employment Court, ridiculously high ACC, Maternity Leave, and on and on it goes. The most people I ever employed was 15 but there is no way in hell I could repeat that under todays regulations. Maybe the Government should look at starting projects of their own where these people can be employed, because there is no way in hell a private employer would be interested in the majority of them. Right, that's why a friend of ours, a builder, never employs anyone, no matter how much work he gets in....also why there is such a big "under the table" cash job society. www.adoos.co.nz :clap |

| 869486 | 2010-03-24 08:00:00 | Not just trades people, I've had small parts made/modified by local engineering firms, as I don't have access to a lathe nowadays, and the money has gone into their tea fund. Then the odd job around the garden that I don't like doing, like going up a tree to lop branches, that gets fitted in at the end of the day as a fill in cash job. Everyone is happy, and anyway money goes round and round, with the IRD taking GST skims every time there is a spend. Makes one wonder there is any money left over  |

The gov currently substitutes Mc Donalds to employ people, that should really be rolled out to other jobs too. I wouldn't mind hiring someone to do paper work for $6 per hour, and the rest paid for by the gov. |

Not sure its illegal because sometimes the machinists says its free, dont worry about it not worth the paperwork so if I still give him 24 woodies has anyone broken the law? I have an old lathe but its got too much play in the crosshead for me to use without stuffing the job up. . |
