1143916 2010-10-13 06:56:00 Have one here but it's doing the white screen thing until you wobble the lid then it works gary67 (56)
1143917 2010-10-13 07:41:00 Have this particular dv5 sitting on my desk not using it its on and running speccy the cpu is up to 83-85 so think will have to look at the thermal compound and replace it see if that makes a difference gary67 (56)
1143918 2010-10-13 08:07:00 What model is this dv5? Gary?

1143919 2010-10-13 08:32:00 hmm doesn't tell me tomorrow maybe gary67 (56)
1143920 2010-10-14 07:04:00 Hmmm well have it propped up an a slicker pad from the freezer which has dropped the CPU temp by around 10C or slightly more and the screen is behaving so it seems it is a heat issue. having looked at the manual I'm not game to pull the whole thing apart so gong to tell the owner what the problem seems to be and leave it at that as at 2 years old it's out of warranty gary67 (56)
1143921 2010-10-14 09:59:00 If they used the wrong TIM, then just replace it with AS5 like someone else said... very easy and cheap fix. Agent_24 (57)
1143922 2010-10-14 17:45:00 Decided I didn't want to pull the lappie apart as you have to remove everything and I mean everything t get to the heatsink and since I don't do this for a living I don't think its fair for me to pull someone's laptop apart as I can't offer a guarantee that it will work gary67 (56)
1143923 2010-10-15 03:47:00 Sounds reasonable to me, gary! I would do it for my own but, like you say, why would you want to take it on for someone else? linw (53)
